SELECTION PROCESS – GRADUATE PROGRAM IN STATISTICS ( MASTER AND DOCTORAL)UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DE MINAS GERAIS-BRAZIL.REGISTRATION INFORMATION (2023-1st Semester)
- ·Number of positions for Master studies: 35 positions (26 regular positions and 09 for the program “ação alternativa”).
- ·Number of positions for Doctoral studies: 20 positions (16 regular positions and 4 for the program “ação alternativa”).
- ·Registration period: Until 31 October, 2023.
The application form should be sent to the Office of the Graduate Program, e-mail: pgest@est.ufmg.br, with the following attached documents:
- 1.Application form is available for download at the Graduate program’s website (http://www.est.ufmg.br/
portal/pos-graduacao/mestrado- doutorado/2-uncategorised/32- english-version) - 2.Copy of the undergraduate diploma (or an equivalent document) issued by an official institution or officially recognized, or a document that confirms that the candidate is in conditions of obtaining the undergraduate title until the enrollment date. The candidate should bring the original document if enrolling in the program;
- 3.University transcript related to the undergraduate degree;
- 4.Copy of the Master’s degree diploma and Master’s transcript if it exists;
- 5.Curriculum vitae;
- 6.Letter from the institution where the candidate works, when applicable, presenting the candidate, as well as an approval letter from such institution indicating that the candidate is allowed to attend the Ph.D. program, or a term of commitment presented by the candidate;
- 7.02 letters of recommendation (the form is available for download in the link http://www.est.ufmg.br/
portal/pos-graduacao/mestrado- doutorado/2-uncategorised/32- english-version) - 8.Background check document from his/her country;
- 9.Copy of the passport.
- 10.For Ph.D. candidates. One Cover Letter, no longer than 10 pages (ten) pages, reporting his/her scientific interests, academic experiences in research, the main scientific contributions from his/her Master’s dissertation (if there is a dissertation to report), and the list of published articles or results obtained and not yet published from scientific projects.
- 11.Self-declared black candidates, who opt for selection through the reservation of vacancies, must submit the Ethnic-Racial Self-Declaration form, available in the program’s website, in accordance with the CEPE/UFMG Resolution nº 02/2017.
- 12.Proof of proficiency in English and Portuguese, if any, or a statement to be included in the application form indicating that the candidate will take the language exam offered by the program.
After submitting the application, the candidate will receive an application number.
– Exams
- Stage 1 – Foreign language examination (English and Portuguese). The candidate can prove his/her proficiency in English through the following internationally known certificates: English Certificates such as TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreing Language), Cambridge level FCE (First Certificate of English) or IELTS (International English Language Test). Other certificates (including those for Portuguese) should be submitted for evaluation and approval by the Graduate Program Coordination.
- Stage 3 – Statistics and Probability exam (for Master’s candidates only). See calendar below. Recommended references: ROSS, S.A. First course in probability. 5 ed., N. Jersey: Prentice Hall, 1988. HOGG, R.V., CRAIG, A.T. Introduction to mathematical statistics. London: Macmillan, 1978. Candidates residing outside the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte (Brazil) who wish to carry out Stage 3 in another Higher Education Institution must inform the chosen location in the application form. The candidate is solely responsible for obtaining from the chosen institution their concent for being the place where the exam will occur. The UFMG Statistics Graduate Program will be responsible for finding a professor/employee (from the indicated institution) to apply the exam. The candidate final solution of the exam must be submitted by the person applying the exam via e-mail (PDF format) to pgest@est.ufmg.br
– Results: The results will be available at the Program’s website (http://www.est.ufmg.br/ portal/pos-graduacao/mestrado-
doutorado/2-uncategorised/32- english-version) – Enrollment: The selection process is schedule for the end of 2022 and the approved candidates are expected to enroll in the first semester of 2023.
– Beginning of classes: Dates will be released at the 2023 UFMG official calendar.
